Hands down best ramen in San Diego. Really feels like you're in a Japanese ramen shop! Menya Ultra always has insanely flavorful broth. The broth is always rich and hearty, perfect for the hungry soul. It is insane that they do not use MSG to get their umami richness. What got me is mainly the noodles. I am not a fan of egg noodle, so eating these homemade wheat flour added a different dimension. They are springy yet smooth, with a great chew with each bite while still getting the softness of the cooked noodle. It complements the overall richness of every broth. They have ramen for everyone here: Tonkatsu ramen is the lightest out of all the ramen they serve and is a great intro to Menya. While this is still quite rich, it is very easy to slurp down and finish. The tonkatsu is good, nothing much else to say about it. TanTanMen has the most rich broth. It can be served with the paiko cutlet available in pork or chicken. In my opinion, the chicken pairs best as it is lighter and much juicier. The pork is thicker, but texturally great as well. Especially if you let the paiko pork soak in the broth. Spicy miso ramen is very good as well. Has a more nutty taste to it from the miso and is the only ramen here that has the option for extra spiciness on the menu. (You can still order extra spicy add-ons to the other ramen as well, just not on the menu). It is a well balanced ramen, still with a very rich broth. Highly recommend adding a soft boiled egg to all ramen here. It is very flavorful! Sometimes they overcook it though. Regardless it is a great pairing with every ramen. Nagoya style chicken is a great karaage appetizer here. Insanely packed with flavor, the Nagoya styled sauce that it is covered in has lots of umami flavor. Almost soy-sweet, this karaage is super juicy on the inside since it is a chicken thigh cut and the outside is fried just crispy enough. You can also ask for spicy mayo on the side to dip, but it is perfect the way it is.

First time coming here and it definitely did not disappoint! I appreciated the low sodium option bc I love ramen, but not always the sodium level. I had the black sesame tan tan and my fiance had the one with chicken paiko added. We both ate our entire meal! The chili oil was a nice addition. And the minced pork was cooked and seasoned just right. Was able to join the waitlist on our 20 min drive to the location, and was seated shortly after. Waitlist gets long so I suggest getting on it asap. They opened at 5pm and we arrived a little past 6pm with little wait time! Highly recommend this spot

If you're craving an authentic Japanese ramen experience, Menya Ultra in San Diego is an absolute must-visit. The spicy ramen here is simply divine, delivering a perfect balance of heat and flavor that will transport your taste buds straight to Japan. The Nagoya karaage and negi pon karaage are fried to perfection--crispy on the outside, tender and juicy on the inside, just as you'd find in a traditional izakaya. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, making it feel like a little slice of Japan right in the heart of San Diego. However, be prepared for a bit of a wait as this place is popular. To avoid a long queue, make sure to check in on Yelp early for a table. Trust me, the wait is well worth it!

**MICHELIN GUIDE FOR A REASON!** My go to ramen shop in San Diego. Started coming here when it was the only location they had, but they've now expanded to La Jolla UTC, Mira Mesa (currently being remodeled), and Hillcrest (not sure if reopening, but temporary closed). This restaurant is very popular so expect long wait times on Friday nights and weekends. To help alleviate the wait, you can get on the waitlist on Yelp and you don't have to be in the area to do so, but be sure to check in with a server before the given check in time. That way, the server can ensure that your entire party is there and may be able to seat you earlier if other parties have not checked in. Before you get inside the restaurant, they have a neat history of when and where they opened their ramen shops. In 2017, they opened their 12th ramen shop in San Diego. I've tried a good amount of items on the menu and personally like the Tonkatsu Ajitama if I'm feeling something lighter and the TantanMen if I want something on the heavier side. The TantanMen is red pork broth that's infused with chili oil and you have the choice of adding a pork or chicken cutlet (similar to katsu). It's advertised that they don't use MSG in their ramen which is a plus. I like the fact that you can adjust the sodium content because as a personal preference, I like to get lower sodium in my ramen. Service is great, workers are very friendly and parking lot is plentiful.

Always a solid place for ramen cravings! Menya Ultra is well-known for its ramen from the Michelin guide, and its reputation is deserved. It is so delicious! The Tonkotsu ramen is flavored well, and you can adjust the sodium if you prefer. My order is the Tonkotsu Ajitama with no bean sprouts. There is also no MSG in their food, which is greatly appreciated because I'm extremely sensitive to it. The egg was so flavorful and a nice soft boil, and the broth is soo good. There is a long wait at times but you can join early with the Yelp app! Service is also very friendly! Can be a bit noisy.

First time came here coz my friend from Seattle craving for Ramen and said this is a Michelin so he wanted to try out. We joined the waiting list outside the door before it opened, then realized a lot of people on the waiting list before us. The server was quick to organize tables so we won't have to wait too long outside. Foods: since is said it has Michelin rate, so I expected something stand out compared to others... food was ok good but nothing special. My ramen has quite more onion (which in the menu picture I thought was seaweed), and ai am allergic to onion so I have to give all to my friend. The meat is so-so, I ate at a restaurant near Marukai market plaza and that one is much much better for fresh made noodle and meat quality. Chicken: this one is crispy hot and yummy. But the Korean restaurant in Rancho Penasquisto area made it much better delicious. Service: waitress is nice. One thing is they didn't check that they miss 1 pair of chopsticks in out tabel and the drink serve didn't give out straws for us to use. They are busy, and not really pay attention to our tabel (right at the door, my friend didn't want to bother or let me wait for my chopsticks so he came over to the cashier tabel to get it himself. Tips: they only have options for 18-20-25% tips (and a customize number). For a tabel of 2 with quick dine-in and how they serve our tabel, I am not that cheap on tip but wanted to go for 15% but since the waitress stood at our tabel and watched while I paid it, made me feel uncomfortable so I went for 18% which I was not quite happy.
